Oskar Blues Brewery Introduces First National Craft Hard Seltzer With Wild Basin Boozy Sparkling Water

Wild Basin Offers Contemporary Flavor Profiles at 100 Calories, 0g of Sugar, 1g of Carbs

LONGMONT, Colo. (December 4, 2018) – Building on their long history of innovation, Oskar Blues Brewery is set to launch the first national craft hard seltzer with Wild Basin Boozy Sparkling Water. Crafted and canned at Oskar Blues’ Longmont, CO, facility, Wild Basin utilizes water from the St. Vrain River to create a liquid as clean and pure as its Rocky Mountain origin.

As the tagline “Keep Running Wild” implies, Wild Basin will speak to active lifestyle consumers who value the outdoors, socializing with friends and healthier living. From outdoor yoga to rooftop happy hours, Wild Basin will provide drinkers with a tasty alternative to wine and spirits. The hard seltzer segment has exploded over the last year and shows not sign of slowing down. But unlike other recent fads, Oskar Blues believes that hard seltzer – or boozy sparkling water as they put it – is here to stay.

“The response from both distributors and retailers so far has been tremendous,” said CANarchy President Matt Fraser. “We’ll do whatever it takes to ensure that we have product in warehouses and on shelves.” To that end, Oskar Blues is making a significant investment in new canning and packaging lines that are able to handle sleek cans at volume.

In terms of nutritional credentials, Wild Basin (5% ABV) checks in at a compelling 100 calories with 0g of sugar and only 1g of carbs. Additionally, the boozy sparkling water is gluten free, contains no artificial ingredients and uses only natural flavors.

From a flavor standpoint, Wild Basin takes a contemporary approach with profiles that are designed to resonate with younger drinkers who seek new, culinary combinations. From Cucumber Peach to Melon Basil and even Lemon Agave Hibiscus, Wild Basin will intrigue consumers and mixologists alike. Additionally, Classic Lime offers a familiar, refreshing option in the mixed-flavor variety pack.

Packaging is also a core differentiator for the brand. The colorful cans are intended to grab shoppers’ attention and evoke the natural beauty of the mountain landscape that inspired the brand. In a category that is predominately white in color, Wild Basin will defy convention with artwork that is bold, vibrant and eye-catching.

Oskar Blues will donate $1 per case to their charitable partner, The Can’d Aid Foundation, in support of river preservation initiatives and other forms of people-powered do-goodery. Through various digital channels, consumers will be able to track in real time how much money has been donated and see exactly how their contributions will be used.

“Wild Basin is unique in that it challenges some existing category conventions,” said Oskar Blues CMO Patrick Daugherty. “Our goal is to introduce something that can help grow the category and give drinkers a true craft option in hard seltzer.”

Wild Basin Boozy Sparkling Water will initially launch in January in Colorado and North Carolina, two of Oskar Blues’ home markets. Soon thereafter, distribution will expand to other key markets and ultimately nationwide. For more information, please contact Maddie@oskarblues.com.

Local L.A. Brewery Three Weavers Offers Additional Support

Longmont, CO, November 14, 2018 — The Can’d Aid Foundation, in partnership with CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective and Ball Corporation, announced that 48,000 cans of drinking water are en route to Los Angeles County to support fire fighting efforts.

Devastating fires in both Northern and Southern California have caused more than 300,000 people to evacuate their homes statewide, the majority of whom reside in Los Angeles County. Firefighters are battling intense Santa Ana winds, which are predicted to bring gusts up to 55 MPH this week. Three Weavers Brewing Company, who recently joined the CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective, recently participated in fundraising efforts supporting Can’d Aid’s water program and is setting up additional efforts to support local fire-related initiatives.

“The Woolsey fire has hit us pretty close to home. Some of our friends and families have been displaced, evacuated and some have unfortunately lost their homes. We are all thankful for the firefighters who are risking their lives to save others as well as defending our homes. I can’t express enough gratitude to our CANarchy family and Can’d Aid for their immediate response to our community’s need,” said Lynne Weaver, Founder and President of Three Weavers Brewing Company.

Oskar Blues Brewery’s Barrel-Aged Ten FIDY Imperial Stout Returns for National Release

LONGMONT, CO, OCT 25, 2018 – BA – it stands for barrel-aged, but it also stands for badass, big attitude, born-again beer adventure. All those B’s and A’s add up to the biggest beer in the biggest can around – Oskar Blues Brewery’s Barrel-Aged Ten FIDY Imperial Stout. This darker-than-dark 12.9% ABV behemoth is back in 2018 and ready for national distribution on draft and in 19.2oz stovepipe cans. BA Ten FIDY season begins November 3 with taproom events in Boulder and Longmont, CO, and Brevard, NC.
Oskar Blues Brewery stuffed Ten FIDY Imperial Stout into bourbon barrels for a minimum of eight months; allowing vanilla, oak, and bourbon flavors to permeate the pitch-black depths of FIDY. During maturation, the FIDY-plus-bourbon flavors mellow into a cool, drinkable, deeply complex brew.
“Ten FIDY is already a big beer and barrel-aging takes it to the next level of decadence,” said Head of Brewing Operations Tim Matthews. “Espresso and burnt sugar flavors are turned up to eleven; alongside rich chocolate and caramel notes. Basically, it’s a flavor beast.”
For those seeking to add a stimulant into the mix, Oskar Blues will also offer Java Barrel-Aged Ten FIDY Imperial Stout (12.9%) only at Colorado and North Carolina taproom locations. The Java incarnation of Barrel-Aged Ten FIDY got all jacked up on roasty coffee flavor after an infusion of Hotbox Roasters’ super concentrated cold brew coffee.

OSKAR BLUES BREWERY BRINGS DEATH BY COCONUT IRISH PORTER BACK FOR 2018

Taproom Release Events To Take Place October 5, Followed by National Distribution

LONGMONT, CO, SEPTEMBER 19, 2018 – Oskar Blues Brewery announces a cult classic comeback – Death by Coconut Irish Porter returns for winter 2018 with kickoff events in taprooms on October 5. The seasonal brew marries flavors of bittersweet cacao and creamy coconut; asserts that beer is the perfect dessert; and invites believers to join the Death by Coconut Irish Porter Cult this season. The 6.5% ABV porter will be nationally distributed in 4-packs of 12oz cans starting in early October.

Chocolate and coconut are perfectly intertwined in a recipe that pleases the beer gods. “No false advertising here – it’s as straightforward a chocolate-and-coconut beer as it gets,” said Juice Drapeau, Head Brewer at the Oskar Blues pilot brewery in Lyons. “The chocolate-y malt flavors and coconut aroma and flavor are nicely balanced, and it’s not as viscous as a stout, which makes it more palatable.”

Death by Coconut was originally brewed as a small batch collaboration with Shamrock Brewing in 2014 and went on to earn a silver medal at GABF in the chocolate beer category. At that point, increased demand challenged brewers to find innovative ways to accentuate the rich chocolate flavor while increasing consistency and stability for distribution of the cult favorite outside of the taproom.

Boulder-based Cholaca provided the answer to the chocolate question. The product is made from three ingredients – water, cacao and coconut sugar – and allows brewers to give beer a rich, smooth chocolate flavor by adding liquid chocolate (cacao emulsified in water) rather than using cacao nibs or powders. Plus, the cacao is sourced directly from farmers and co-ops in Ecuador that utilize regenerative farming practices. “Now Cholaca is in over 700 breweries, in 50 states including Canada, in 15 countries, including Australia. That volume gives us the ability to import quality cacao. It helps us get the great stuff,” said Cholaca founder Ira Leibtag. “Without the great stuff, we end up with GMO and preservative-infiltrated product… and ruined rainforests.”

Cholaca’s bittersweet chocolate flavor comes together with raw, desiccated coconut and a malt bill based around Simpson’s Extra Dark Crystal. The result is a rich, dessert-y flavor with a light, approachable mouthfeel.

Folks interested in ritual beer-drinking, chocolate worship and coconut offerings are invited to join the Death by Coconut 2018 cult. The initiation happens on October 5. Check out party details here:

TEN FIDY IMPERIAL STOUT MAKES SUPERMASSIVE RETURN AUGUST 31

Oskar Blues Ushers in Ten FIDY Season with Taproom Parties and National Distribution

LONGMONT, CO, AUG 23, 2018 – Oskar Blues announces the return of Ten FIDY Imperial Stout – a huge, 10.5% ABV black hole of burly malt flavor. In a galaxy not-so-far away (the Oskar Blues brewery) brewers discovered a mathematical curiosity – a beer darker than dark – so dark that it has sucked up massive amounts of flavor and allowed no light to penetrate its malty opaqueness. Oskar Blues will celebrate the Imperial smoothness that is Ten FIDY Imperial Stout with release events in taprooms on August 31. Each taproom will feature a unique FIDY flight including vintage and barrel-aged variants. Ten FIDY will be distributed nationwide in 4-packs of 12oz cans.

Ten FIDY is made from immense amounts of big, dark malt including caramel and Munich malt alongside fluffy oats, resulting in a viscous, opaque cosmic beer entity. FIDY gravitates toward flavors of chocolate-covered caramel, espresso, black licorice and plum. A phenomenon that’s been described as “Beer, only better and darker,” FIDY is as supermassive as ever this fall.

In order to better understand Ten FIDY, Oskar Blues approached the beer’s leading expert, Randy Bayless. Randy replied to an Oskar Blues job posting on Craigslist in 2010 and 8 years later he operates out of the Brevard, NC, Brewery. During his tenure, he has likely imbibed more FIDY than anyone else in the world.

“FIDY is like one of those old-school black velvet paintings,” said Bayless. “The malt is a velvet canvas with deep, dark chocolate and coffee flavors painted across it to depict what the Big Bang probably looked like (obviously, so freaking rad that you can’t look at it without weeping and having a psychedelic experience). With an ornate stone-fruit frame, it’s a damn masterpiece.”

Gaze into the FIDY and the FIDY gazes back. Explore the depths of Ten FIDY with us at one of our release events coming up on August 31. For the first time EVER, we’ll have FIDY flights – complete with barrel-aged varieties like JAHvanilla Barrel-Aged Ten FIDY, Vanilla and Sugar Maple Wood Aged Ten FIDY, Tennessee Whiskey Barrel-Aged Ten FIDY and vintage FIDY variants from as far back as 2012. Flight options will vary according to taproom location. See flight lineups here:

Ten FIDY will be distributed nationwide beginning Aug. 31. No need to consult the stars in order to find Ten FIDY near you – just keep an eye on the beerfinder.
