Let the jorts-wearin’, backyard-grillin’, yard-loungin’, frisbee-tossin’ beer-drinkin’ season commence with Oskar Blues Brewery’s new summer seasonal, Fugli Yuzu & Ugli Fruit IPA, a Mosaic hopped India Pale Ale brewed with a trifecta of fruits.

“FUGLI was inspired by a collaboration with Japan’s Yo-Ho Brewing Company that everyone here loved,” said Head of Brewing Operations Tim Matthews. “We felt we could take it to another level so we added more fruits, paired them with zesty mosaic hops, and started messing around with a light malt bill that gives a full mouthfeel.”

This juicy, fresh and aromatic Fugli IPA clocks in at 5.8% ABV and 60 IBUs, making it immensely crushable for wherever summer takes ya.

Fugli consists of an uncommon cross-continental combination. Yuzu is an exotic, tangy dumpy looking lemon from Japan. Living up to its name, Jamaican ugli fruit is an aesthetic nightmare with a surprisingly tasty tangerine-and-grapefruit flavor. Rangpur, grown in Bangladesh, is a lemon and orange hybrid.

Matthews said of the amalgam of citrus flavors, “Together, it’s like an orange, that’s like a lemon, that’s like an orange; but with subtle exotic flavors that blend in a unique way. The high salt profile of the water really brings out the tanginess.”

“Leave it to Oskar Blues to use some obscure ingredients,” laughed Juice Drapeau, Head Brewer at the original Lyons brewpub. “Like rangpur – I had never heard of rangpur before, and it sounds like something from a dirty joke, but it’s actually a fruit with an intense lime flavor.”

“It’s crisp and clean, not too bitter, and not too fruity,” said Drapeau. “The fruits play nice with the hops, and the malt bill lets the citrus flavors pop. It’s very drinkable – top of the list for outdoor day-drinking.”
