Our O.G. Ten FIDY Imperial Stout got a one-way golden ticket to the inside of a barrel, where it went ass-over-elbows into a Cholaca chocolate river and then hotbox’d with Hotbox Roasters’ coldbrew until it manifested as a smooth mocha mutha – Bourbon Barrel-Aged Mocha Ten FIDY. We’re releasing a very limited amount of this rare liquid on July 7, (World Chocolate Day) at the Oskar Blues Boulder, Longmont, and Brevard Taproom locations.
Bourbon Barrel Aged Ten FIDY (9% ABV) was massively doused with unsweetened pure liquid cacao made by our friends at Cholaca, then dosed with Hotbox Roasters’ cold brew from Mexican coffee beans. Get it in a grande, a venti, or a trenta… just kidding, put it straight in yer mouthhole. “Ten FIDY Imperial Stout doesn’t know how to use its inside voice in the first place; and on this one, we hooked it up to a Cholaca-and-coffee amplifier and turned the volume up to 11,” said Tim Matthews, Head of Brewing Operations for Oskar Blues.
We started stuffing craft beer into a can in 2002. Back then, it was uncommon for a craft brew to come in a shiny cylindrical package; and some folks straight up thought it was a dumb idea. We get that – we laughed at the idea just like everyone else before we went to Ball Corporation and found out the advantages of the can – better for the beer, better for the environment and better for the beer drinker since the beer is kept fresher and it’s more portable… then we realized it wasn’t something we should do, it was something we HAD to do.
The area in and around our hometown of Lyons, Colorado, offers some of the most rugged, git-down-and-dirty outdoor sports opportunities in the country. Dale is a running, biking, outdoorsy mutha who found a bunch more running, biking, outdoorsy muthas to work for Oskar Blues Brewery. In recent years, we’ve spread the can fever to other places where peeps love to do stuff outside – with breweries in Brevard, NC, and Austin, TX. At all three of our locations our staff takes advantage of local trails, rivers, streams, open spaces, dog parks, people parks, and everywhere in between – and consequently we have a big load o’ respect and awe over our planet. That’s why we think it makes the most sense to take your trail beers with you in a can – they’re easier to pack in and out, and they’re 100% recyclable after you crush ’em. We do it all the time, but don’t take our word for it – grab some cans and get outside.
To learn more about Earth-friendly packaging, check out this vid by our friends at Ball Corp, who’ve been our steadfast partners in leading the craft-in-a-can revolution over the past two decades. Plus, visit the blog again soon for upcoming blurbs about other sustainability efforts including topics like the use of photodegradable six-pack rings, spent grain donation, minimizing packaging, and more.

We were stoked to be part of Music City CANarchy, presented by Ball Corporation, at the 2018 Craft Brewer’s Conference in Nashville. We joined our CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective friends at Perrin Brewing, Wasatch Brewery, Squatters Craft Beer, and Cigar City Brewing to put on a huge celebration of craft beer in a can. The fest featured 32 food trucks, over 20+ different brews to choose from, meet the brewer sessions, live music including a killer headlining performance by Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real, and tons of other beerfoolery, beernanigans and beerziness. Music City CANarchy represented the kind of cool sh*t that becomes possible when craft breweries collaborate at the next level.
The event was a fundraiser for the CAN’d Aid Foundation, the CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective non-profit partner that spreads people-powered do-goodery through TOWNS, TUNES, TREADS + TRAILS and LOVE YUR MAMA efforts nationwide. CAN’d Aid hosted daily “Crush It Sessions” featuring live music from their TUNES ambassadors and local Nashville talent.

When? We’re asking to see those Fugli mugs all summer long. Post by July 25th to enter your pet. Then the OB staff will have a super serious town hall meeting where we’ll pick the top 10 entries (just kidding, we’ll crack some beers, gather around somebody’s computer and pick the ones we like best. That’s about as formal as it gets ’round here.) August 1-10 we’ll let the people decide by voting for their favorite #FUGLIpet photo on Insta. Winners announced August 14.
What can I win? A sweet FUGLI prize pack – plus your Fugli best friend will be Insta Famous.
