A huge shoutout to our friends at Root Shoot in Loveland, CO, for taking home a well-deserved award – the Craft Maltster’s Guild’s “Malt Cup” award for their Genie Pale malt.
We use Genie Pale as the base malt for many of our small batch beers brewed at the original brewery site in Lyons. Genie has lightly malty flavor with honey and bread notes.
“At Oskar Blues, our standards of quality are very high,” said Lyons’ Head Brewer, Juice Drapeau. “This award showcases the kind of malt that Root Shoot produces – Genie Pale is something I’m really happy with.”
In fact, Juice is currently working on an apricot wheat using all Colorado-sourced ingredients, which will use Genie Pale malt and apricots grown on Colorado’s Western Slope. The 5.5% ABV beer will be available at select locations in May – stay tuned for more details.
