As some of you may know, funky little Oskar Blues Grill & Brew started 15 years ago when Dale and his high school sweetheart (and now wife!) stumbled across the small town of Lyons, Colorado while on a road trip north from their home in Alabama.
Five years later, in 2002, Dale did something then unheard of, and stuffed his voluminously hoppy Dale’s Pale Ale in a CAN! Dale’s Rocky Mountain trip came full circle when we took Oskar Blues brews “back home” earlier this month to launch distribution in Alabama with Birmingham Beverage Company.
Continued growth over the last handful of years has given us the capacity to make Alabama our first official new market in several years, and we are STOKED! Chris Katechis – you may know him as ‘The Gubna” – headed South last week to kick off the Oskar Blues launch. I’m sure it’s not too big a stretch of the imagine to say that Chris was more than ecstatic to bring his bro’s brews down to the state where all of their shenanigans once took place.
And what better time to open up Alabama, where Dale brewed the first batch of his pale ale in a bathtub while attending Auburn University, as our Red, White & Blue cans of Dale’s Pale Ale look down the barrel of celebrating ten years this November??

tried old chub by oskar blues in a can, normally its dark bottles only when drinking good brews so when i had my first beer from OB i was delighted by the taste. truly a 6 pack worth buying. not a local beer for me and with that said i will put that on my list of “go to beers”. CHEERS!
As an Auburn man I’ve been so proud of Dale et al. in making great beers and doing it responsibly. Can on! As a hardcore hophead in Alabama, I previously relied on my biz trips out of state to keep me in high gravity heaven. (Yes, we used to have a hard limit of 6% ABV on beer. We only last month passed a law that allows for beer bottles larger than 16 oz.) Thankfully, grass root orgs like “Free the Hops” helped to raise the limit to 13.9% in May ’99, and we’ve been adding vendors ever since. I haven’t seen Oskar Blues in stores yet, but I will look, and I will *definitely* ask for them.
Thanks Marshall! Should be on store shelves and in bars now. In about another month or so you’ll be able to use our beer finder on our website – http://www.oskarblues.com/about-us/beer-locator. It’s not updated with AL yet, but will be soon. Rock on!
Thanks for givin’ us a try. And you DIG the can too, which is even better! Cheers
On my way to The Nook in Huntsville after work. Can’t wait to try Old Chub on tab!
So Happy! to see OB brews at the local grocery store here in Opelika. As a former Coloradoan, I have enjoyed your offerings from the start. Keep up the great work and If you can send some “Deviant Dales IPA”, our way have not tried that one yet. Congratulations on your upcomming Ten Year Anniversary!
Steve
Hey guys! Greetings from Bham, AL. I read about your beer in the paper a few weeks ago and picked up some Dale’s Pale Ale as soon as I could lay my hands on a ‘sixer. Without a doubt the best pale ale I’ve ever tasted. However, my Oskar Blues “Holy Crap” moment came when I discovered Old Chub. Not only does the can flaunt quotes from one of my favorite movies but it contains one of the most unique and enjoyable brews I’ve come across. It’s like drinking a craft beer with a shot of scotch for a chaser…. spherical yet quick-pointy in places. Welcome back to Bama my friends and War Eagle!
Moving to Longmont from Auburn. Was hous-hunting in Longmont last week and everyone told me that I had to go to Oskar Blues one night. My wife and I did and we loved it. Can’t be happier to see that this is the product of a fellow Auburn grad.
I will be seen aplently at Oskar Blues once my relocation is final in a couple of weeks.
War Eagle!
Make a special edition Auburn can!
War Damn!
